Wood Checking, An All Natural Process

Have you noticed a few cracks in your new wooden fence posts or rails? Rest easy, you have no reason to fear! These cracks, also referred to as “checking” is a natural wood drying process. Checking occurs in all products that contain the center of the tree. As the wood beings to age, the outside of the post/rail dries faster causing the check (small or large cracks). The strength and durability of the post/rail will not be affected by this process.
